Assignment #1
- a) Instagram: Instagram is a free service where you can upload your own images and short videos for other users to see. You can also view and comment images and short videos your friends have uploaded to the service. It was published in October 2010. It is mainly used by teens and young adults but has gained some popularity among middle-aged people as well. It has the most amount of users in the USA.
TikTok: TikTok is a platform where you can download your own and view other users' short videos. It was first published in September 2016 but started become more and more popular from the start of January 2018. It is mainly used by teens and young adults. It has the largest number of users in India.
b) Instagram: Tentree: They are very active on instagram updating it atleast twice a day. Instagram is their main platform for advertising their products. They sell nature-themed clothes and accessories for women and men. Their business idea is that they plant ten trees for every sold item. They post pictures of models posing in nature wearing their products and some other nature-themed pictures.
I think they should arrange contest where by tagging your friend to the comments you could win selected items for free. This way they could gain more followers.
TikTok: Chipotle: They post videos of their employees making their meals and giving some food hacks, for example how to make their guacamole at home and also different kinds of meme videos.
I think they should encourage customers to post videos of their Chipotle-meals by setting up a monthly raffle where you can win a giftcard to their restaurant.
c) I'm studying environmental engineering, so for an example for this task I will take a company that is promoting for our environment, Greenpeace. Greenpeace is very active on social media, especially on Instagram where they update atleast twice a day. They use the platform to inform people about natural disasters that are happening at the time (big forest fires etc), the drawbacks in our own, companies' and our leaders' actions towards nature and how can we make a difference. They are using it very effectively and have gained almost 3,5 million followers.
I couldn't find any bad examples, but I've sometimes seen environmental activists talking on social media too aggressively and pointing fingers when you really should be more gentle and encourage people to make better choices through positivity.
