Assigment #2

While using social media tools employees should be aware not to post any company secrets or information that is not meant to be shared. They should also remember that they represent the face of the company so they should act accordingly.
Openess and transparency creates trust in people. It shows that a company is able to stand behind it's words.
For the employer it's beneficial to share company's personal information to have more transparency which make it easier for the jobseekers to approach them. For the employees it's beneficial to share personal stuff online when it makes them appear better in the eyes of the employers.
When privacy isn't properly taken care of there can be many types of damages. One of them is financial damage which is propably the most common one. For example this kind of damage can occur if your social security number or credit card ends up in the wrong hands and in the worst scenario your identity gets stolen. It can also cause you social problems if for example your health database leaks out from some private hospital's system and is available for everyone to see.
b) When I googled information about myself, what came up was my Facebook account and some old pictures from my blog which I haven't updated since 2012. The information was correct and I feel like I have some control. For example I could delete my blog and I think those old pictures wouldn't come up if someone googled my name. I still don't think they would totally disappear from the internet.
Digital identity is formed through how others see you and how you see yourself. It is a permanent collection of data that is online.
The manipultation of information and pictures is a real problem from many aspects. Of course you want people (including possible future employers) to see you as perfect as possible and it is OK. It is even advisable to bring out the best features of yourself but if you have to lie, it crosses the line. When it comes to employer searching for a new employee to her or his company, it can even be dangerous to lie in your resume. Let's say you have written in your CV that you can drive a forklift even though you can't and when you get the job you drive it anyway. This can lead to you damaging your employers property or even physically harm someone including yourself.
When it comes to manipulation of pictures of yourself the effect is different but still pretty notable. For example, when you post a picture of yourself where you have narrowed your waist, it affects negatively to your self-image and creates a domino effect, where other people see it and feel less of themselves which leads them to manipulate their own pictures. This is a very common problem these days when a big majority of people live life through their phones. It feels like it is more important how you are seen on social medias than in real life.
It seems pretty weird if you can't find any information about someone from the internet. My instant thought in situation like this is a) they have something to hide, b) they have problems with being social or c) they are poor, homeless etc. But in reality there are people who just don't feel the need to be on any social medias and don't get the hype. I actually truly respect those people and long to reach that state someday. Though, if you are working in a high-level job like a CEO or a politician it is very beneficial if there is information to be found about you. I don't think many people would support a politician that you can't google information about.
c) The key message is that the controller must provide the data subject with particular information when personal data is collected. This includes for example controllers identity and contact details, information about controller's possible intention to transfer personal data to a third party or if they will use it for some other purposes than for what is was collected. The main message of the Article 13 is to ensure fair and transparent processing for everyone. It relates to social media greatly, 'cause when you register to any social media services there is always some personal data being collected and whatever content you post to those services is available to that service's controller.
